Ending Second Year.

I came home today after my last quiz assessment for this academic year. There won’t be any more assignments, quizzes and tedious programming… at least for the rest of this semester. Exams are coming up real soon, but the first thing I’m doing is to uninstall Ubuntu from my PC.

However, I feel a small hesitation to remove this cool OS from my system. I had removed Oracle right after the last assignment from the previous semester without any remorse. But this time round, I actually have second thoughts about removing this Unix OS.

The last question of the quiz just now (for which I came conveniently half an hour late) was to evaluate Ubuntu based on our experience using it. I feel a weird sense of attachment to this OS. It’s unique workspace approach… it’s MAC-like interface integrated with WINDOWS style layout… The fact that you can do loads of different things as if you’re on a different machine altogether, only to crash the system, but hey, no worries, it’s UNIX… it’s almost impossible to crash.

Sigh… good memories trying to work the shit out of kernel programs and processes. I’m still no good at it. Should I keep this OS? interactive_systems… All that’s left of this module is its exam…

The other module I’m taking is system_development, aka bullshit subject. Seriously, the subject teaches you to bullshit all the way. Me and my course mates actually laughed at the notes given to us. You couldn’t believe how full of shit the notes are. Useless common sense crap.

The last assignment, a group work with presentation, was most memorable. On the presentation day, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, came with a laptop, all geared up for the presentation. Two of my members were late, and we only brought a thumbdrive. We were the last group to present. While everyone actually programmed their stuff from scratch, we simply produced a website that accomplishes the same objectives. A good two days worth of development and reports. Oh man.. it’s like POLY all over again. I remembered that business module shit that me and Boga did like a few days before the deadline and scored better than the group who umm, kicked us out.

I still don’t know how well we fared for the project, but it looked really hopeful. What I know is that the class sure as hell don’t look happy seeing our short cut method and how interested the lecturer is. Maybe he’s interested in failing us eh? I don’t know.

I really have no idea how to study for this subject that’s full of bullshit. It’s like.. you have to stock up on all the bullshit you can get before you take the paper. Then spew as much crap as you can.

So now I’m still thinking of uninstalling UBUNTU.

Ah screw it! Good riddance UBUNTU! Get the hell out of my system!

Progress! The dreaded database connection coding is over! Phew… Just a bit more to go, but I’m gonna take a break from this for a while. Exams looms in one week’s time.

The Night Ride

EDIT:
This entry was too big a chunk to put on this website. So I’ve relocated it to another URL.
Click the picture to read the full story.

Synopsis:
A group of friends go riding around some abandoned and rumoured-to-be-haunted places in the Changi area.

Rush Hour 3

My stomach hurts from laughing so much in this movie. Like what krazykow used to say, this is a movie where you leave your brain outside the theater and enjoy it without criticising it too much.

Chris Tucker is non-stop comedy. Seriously, there’s not a single line of his dialogue that ISN’T funny. And it’s not lame kinda funny. It’s really genuinely funny, like ‘laugh your balls off’ funny.

Here’s something to note. There might be certain humour that would cater to higher levels of intellect. And some humour that would appeal to an idiotic audience.

The story isn’t very outstanding at all. There seem to be no climax to the movie. It’s probably because it starts off real fast and maintains the pace all the way till the end, that you don’t even know that ‘oh! the bad guy’s defeated. it’s the end!’

And right after the movie, like its previous two movies, it’s got a bunch of unintentional and intentional bloopers.

Go watch!

Nightwish - Amaranth

The first person I shared this with was the man who introduced me to Nightwish back in Poly, the Foo boy. And this is what he has to say:

Marcus Foo says:
she looks better
Marcus Foo says:
but her style like lindsay lohan sia..
Fer ‘buckethead’ says:
ok tts imagewise
Fer ‘buckethead’ says:
what about music?
Marcus Foo says:
oh yes concept
Marcus Foo says:
like medieval meets pop
Marcus Foo says:
voice like pop music
Marcus Foo says:
music a little less metal
Fer ‘buckethead’ says:
yeah
Marcus Foo says:
i like the cleavage though

How true.

The video was released a few hours before this post. And people’s put it up on youtube already.

When I first heard the intro, it was promising. I hope Nightwish preserves its unique brand of goth/power/melodic metal. But then, when the new singer, Anette Olzon, started singing, it became more like pop. Especially when she started bobbing her head like britney spears or something.

Then the worst part was… Emppu got no solo! He’s like a freakin’ rhythm guitarist! Song wise, its a totally new sound, although a lot less metal than previous albums. I guess they’re trying to fit in to the new vocals.

So far I’ve heard two songs from their new album. And so far, I’m still skeptical that it’ll live up to its own grandeur.

The only good thing about the whole vocalist change was the image and outlook change that comes with it. I’m certain there are gonna be lots of new fans now, since they’re becoming more mainstream. Anette also gives a fresh look to the band. Although she’s slightly older than Tarja, she can surely give a good presentation, I hope. I haven’t seen them live yet.

Virus Alert

I think this is new. I couldn’t find any info about it on the net.

If you received a message on MSN from any of your contacts with a file called ‘img1756.zip’ sent, do NOT accept.

Close the window. That contact will probably go offline soon after trying to send it.

It may be accompanied by outrageous messages like:

“Check it out, I shaved my head!”

or

“What the fuck! Have you seen this!?”

So, heads up. Don’t be viral. Heck, I don’t even know if I’m infected.

Batman Teaser

It’s been out for more than a week now, but this is the new batman movie’s teaser trailer.

It’s not much, but it’s enough to make me jitter with excitement and anticipation. This movie is most definitely gonna rock.

The joker looked really psychotic. Can’t wait to see him face off against the Bat.

And I quote this from SHH, which quoted it from Kotaku. Click here for full article.

Sams, Metzen and Jashni said they did not want to “create another video game movie” but to “create an epic.” The script is still in the works and there is no director yet, but they did confirm the story would take place about a year before the events in “World of Warcraft” take place. The film will be told from the Alliance perspective.

I’ve been a fan of warcraft ever since Warcraft ONE. I just never followed the bandwagon when everyone decided to play World of Warcraft. Therefore, knowing that the movie will take place before WOW is a relief.

FYI, Metzen is the artist who drew all the really cool concept arts for Warcraft.

I’ve started rallying people for a secret project. So far the response has been encouraging. I hope to make this a reality.

The Deathly Hallows

I’ve spent the past three days reading this gold.

I haven’t read a single book since umm… book 6. After Wiki-ing on Half-Blood Prince to refresh my memory, I started on the thick novel on Monday.

The story was engrossing, as expected, and just like the previous 6 books I’ve read, the book is very difficult to put down. And by Wednesday afternoon, I flipped past the last page. Somewhere inside me, I’d wished the book would never end… that the last chapter, the epilogue, wouldn’t be published… that there’d be another year in Hogwarts with different adventures.

It’s sad to see an end to a fantastic epic.

Mini Spoiler : Highlight to read.

When I came across that Dobby died, I was most sad. Previous deaths didn’t really affect me. But the poor little elf we all came to love since book 2… it’s just hard to accept how the little creature could be the sacrifice…

The other death most regretted is Tonks, Nymphadora Tonks. Didn’t really care for her much before the 5th Movie was released. But once they’ve put a face to her character, she’d become really likable, and to read about her death, with her husband, right after they had their first child… Man, that’s really sad.

Some people’d spoilt the book for me. And no thanks to them. But the ending wasn’t what I expected at all.

It was a really nice end to the whole story of Harry Potter.

I can’t wait for the 6th and 7th movie to release. I don’t know if I’ll ever find a better read elsewhere…

oh yea… credits to Joe Kool for lending me the book

I had to squeeze this comic in. It’s bloody hilarious. Read it! Sinfest is awesome!
