The Best Zombie Movie

Resident Evil 3 was bad. I’ve already written about that. But the zombie movie I just watched tops all others.

The very popular Maddox wrote in one of his post about the best Zombie film ever. Dawn of the Dead, because it’s got some of the good things he likes about zombie movies. I used to think that Dawn of the Dead was the best too.

But today, I watched 28 Weeks Later.

It’s a sequel to 28 Days Later, which is a pretty good horror/zombie movie. It’s fresh, because instead of the zombies being mindless, blur-cock and always hungry for flesh creatures, the zombies in 28 Days Later were driven by Rage. They’re suffering from a virus, called the Rage Virus.
What it does is that it makes you vomit blood when you’re infected, within seconds! Then you immediately get up with so much energy as if you’ve downed 20 Red Bulls or something. Blood start to flow out of every orifice of your body and you can suddenly run at top speeds to chase after your next victim.

You start looking around, not for flesh coz you’re hungry, but for live humans because… well… because they’re alive. You just wanna inflict maximum pain and ultimately, death. No reason. Just wanna kill. Not the swift quick kill, but the ‘beat and whack and peel eyeballs off and dig cheeks in with bare hands kill’.

That’s the stuff of 28′ series.

Hot military doctor, and cool sniper, protecting two kids from hordes of infected crazy freaks.

For 28 Weeks Later, the story continues from 28 days later, where things had settled down. And US Military is overseeing a huge operation to re-populate the nation of Britain.

Then something cocks up, and the shit happens all over again.

I love this movie coz’ it’s damn huge. So, here’s a list of things I like about this movie:

  • Huge military operation
    • Snipers picking off Zombies from Rooftops
    • Snipers picking off Humans from Rooftops
    • Snipers picking off panicked snipers from Rooftops
  • Massive massive chunks of flesh, loads of blood, and guts spewing all over the place
  • Helicopter blades slicing heads and limbs off zombie creatures.
  • City-wide explosions
  • Everybody Dies… grotesquely! (that’s a spoiler for ya!)
  • The meanest, baddest, freakiest zombies ever!
  • Awesome shock value!
  • People getting flamed by flamethrowers!
  • Muse’s Shrinking Universe is in the soundtrack!

This movie is awesome. Go and watch it if you haven’t done so already.

There are two sequels to Zombie movie that tops it’s predecessor.

  1.  Resident Evil: Apocalypse after Resident Evil 1
  2. 28 Weeks Later after 28 Days Later.

Other sequels like Land of the Dead (damn disappointing) and Resident Evil 3 just plain suck.

Back to Ubuntu

Remember how I said good riddance to Ubuntu at the end of the previous semester?

Well, I end up having to use it again. This time, server edition! Damn. I just can’t run from Linux.

So instead of installing VMWare, which clogs up my system like hell, I decided to go all out and install the damn OS on my 2nd hard drive.

After backing up the stuff on it to my external drive, I did the installation. The first time round, there was a problem with the importing of profiles from XP to Ubuntu. So I unchecked the option to import my files the second time round, and it installed smoothly.

All the time from yesterday till today, I’ve spent on pimping my Ubuntu. So right now, it looked like this:

ubuntu

It’s not much… coz I can’t get my resolution up! I tried sudo, I tried messing with x server, I tried everything they said in the forums. What did it give me? 3 times crashed display, and 2 times denied access to my OS.

I’m gonna leave it as 1024 by 768 already.

But all in all, I think it’s pretty neat for a FREE OS. Now I’m in the process of installing the 143 updates they’ve got for me. A lot, isn’t it?

the PHD

I’ve gotten myself an external hard disk. Back in the old days, external hard disks are more featured for its portability and thus, people generally term them as Portable Hard Disks/Drives, or PHD for short.

But as time goes by and people are just buying disks for storage and portability just isn’t the most attractive feature of the product. People don’t know what I’m talking about when I said I got a PHD. Instead, they think I’m making some sort of dirty statement. You know, with PHD meaning Pretty Huge D***.

What a screwed up world.

The disk’s sized at 250 GB. It’s pretty ok I guess. It’s about time I backed up my stuff properly.

But then there was a problem. Occasionally, I couldn’t eject the disk properly. As you know, plugging out usb connected devices without safely removing them is a risky business. And I just can’t risk anything with such a huge storage. They kept prompting that the disk was in use, even though I’ve closed all programs and windows relating to the disk.

So further googling landed me on a very useful software from Microsoft. It shows all processes running on your system, including little details like resources being taken up by that process, it’s process id, the threads and semaphores involved, shells, and every single thing you need to know about what’s going on in your PC.

process explorer

Before this, I was ctrl-alt-del’ing to go into Task Manager to handle my processes and closing unnecessary and non-responsive applications and running programs. But this software can let me do so much more.

It’s free. It can be found here.

The Future is Scooter.

Black Yamaha Majesty

Yamaha Majesty (400 cc)

You’d probably see this more commonly on the road. It was one of the first ‘futuristic’ scooters on the road in Singapore.

Gilera GP 800 (850 cc)

I saw this magnificent beast once on the expressway. I couldn’t lift my eyes off it. Luckily there was a lorry up front and I had to look to where I’m going. Beautiful! At 850 cc, who’d want a bike with gears and clutch and all that stuff.

suzuki g strider

Suzuki G Strider (916 cc)

Just look at this one. Shit man. It’s bloody cool. I don’t think it’s reached the shores of Singapore, despite being released in 2003. Shit man. Bloody cool.

Honda Griffon

Honda Griffon (750 cc)

This Griffon just learnt to fly this year. 2007 is the year it’s announced to the world. If this ain’t futuristic, I don’t know what is.

Bikes like these made me reconsider again and again to get a normal clutch’n'gear bike. Scooters are the way of the future. And as you can see here, they’re all class 2 status, except for the yamaha majesty, which is a 2a bike.

So, my class 2 license in the making won’t be for nothing if I decide to pursue scootering to the next level.

Resident Evil: Extinction

Milla J returns as Alice in the third and supposed final installment of this video game movie adaptation. As compared to the first two movies, I think this one pretty much sucks.

I was skeptical originally when I saw the trailers and pictures of Extinction few months back. I thought it was gonna be an all desert, all action, no story, movie. I was right.

Unlike Resident Evil and Resident Evil Apocalypse, this movie pretty much abandons whatever storyline it’s built up and went on a pointless and rather boring journey of zombie killing.

And somewhere towards the end, the producers must’ve realised that they don’t have a proper villian to fight Alice with, and so they made a cheesy villian out of the ’scientist’ guy. The whole thing was pretty lame.

As for Milla’s performance, she’s looking a bit hotter than her Resident Evil 2 self, which I think was her worst looking role. Maybe she’s overshadowed by the hot Jill Valentine (which sadly, didn’t appear, and wasn’t even mentioned, in this movie). Milla J’s Alice in Resident Evil 1 is still the best performance for me.

Ali Larter (the crazy psycho duo-personality girl from Heroes) was also disappointing. She carried a totally secondary supporting role. And the only actor which was carried over from the 2nd one, the military guy, was also insignificant. The reason is all the characters are pretty much the same. No difference in personality. Even the black funny guy from Apocalypse wasn’t as funny. I didn’t even realise it was the same guy

.
Alice in Resident Evil 1
Alice in Resident Evil Apocalypse. Worst looking. Jill Valentine was introduced, and she rocked.
Alice in Resident Evil Extinction. Better looking than part 2, but the worst movie of the three.

All in all, I wouldn’t recommend Resident Evil Extinction. You’d be better off knowing what you know about the Resident Evil story. This ending is not something you wanna seal the story with.

Should’ve watched Superbad instead.

Sepang 2007, a boring race.

It was nearest to my home, compared to other motoGP locales. But I was glad I didn’t go. Coz it was plain BORING.

But luckily, I started watching the race of 250 cc first. It turned out to be quite good. Sure the bikes weren’t as big as the 800 cc ones, but the race was tight. The top 4 or 5 places were never determined or confirmed. And the racers were quite crazy too, making risky overtakes and such.

I’m not saying it’s more interesting than motoGP 800cc, but it might just be as exciting to watch.

This race, at Sepang, saw the crowning of a world champion for 250 cc. Jorge Lorenzo. The Spaniard. He’s got a hell of a showmanship. He finished third this race but it was enough to get him the points to secure the championship. Then he celebrated with a flair that could only remind me of Valentino Rossi’s celebration & antics. He did all sorts of stunts on his bike during the last ‘courtesy round’ (forgot what it’s called) while holding a Spanish flag. Then he proceeded to act more crazy all the way to the podium.

The 250 race today also saw one of the racers hitting another racer while cornering, resulting in one of them skidding out of the track. It was 2 laps to go and the guy was in the 3rd or 4th position. He got up from the skid and looked to the sky and had a sort of like “Why GOD! Why!?” gesture with his arms and head. Such a waste.

Anyways, MotoGP ranks as follow:

  1. Casey Stoner (pfft, again… bloody sick of his monotonous riding)
  2. Marco Melandri
  3. Dani Pedrosa
  4. Randy dePuniet (was just talking about him the other day. My friends said that he’s really good. Now I see why. Next year he’s moving from Kawasaki to Honda I heard)
  5. Valentino Rossi (had a bad start at 11th place, and worked his way up to 5th, but couldn’t get past dePuniet)

I was considering going there to watch the race actually. But luckily I didn’t. It was damn boring.

Rambo: Official Poster

Here’s the official poster of the 4th installment of the Rambo series. First time I saw it, I was looking for the title of the movie, which is said to be John Rambo. There’s no John anywhere.

Other rumours which includes Rambo 4, Rambo: To Hell & Back, Rambo IV: In the Serpent’s Eye, Rambo: Blood River, also could not be found anywhere in the poster. Then I realised, the title of the 4th Rambo movie is just…

RAMBO.

That’s a statement right there. This movie is a must-see.

issue 59. PCM Webcomic

Check it out. I thought I’d do one update for my old dusty webcomic. I was colouring some stuff earlier in Photoshop and I discovered a new way to colour without having the white uncoloured spots appear obvious.

I tried the technique on this one below. It used to be a damn messy sketch with plenty of stray lines. But hey look! No more white areas. Or at least, it’s kept to minimal…

Ok, that’s it for now. OpenGL’s pretty cool. Outz

MotoGP: Australia 07

Phillip Islands is beautiful. It’s a seaside race track, with green fields all around. The weather is nice and sunny. And the race is AWESOME!

The first half of the race is full of action. Malandri and Pedrosa’s exchanging positions constantly, Rossi overtaking every race to get to second place, Hayden’s good start ruined by a problematic bike, and many more!

The commentators kept saying how Nicky Hayden’s reign as World Champion had ended with Stoner taking over the title weeks ago. Then when the race starts, Hayden’s off to chase Stoner’s ass. Even Rossi can’t take him till much later when his bike began to give problems. You could see how furious he was when he made his exit.

Rossi’s team sports a new look, again. Someone should tell him that it’s not the look that will make him win races, its a change of manufacturer. Yamaha’s giving him a lot of problems and as a result, he can’t perform as well as he should be. There were problems with tyres too somehow, with all the racers.

The result of this one:

  1. Stoner (Ducati)
  2. Capirossi (Ducati)
  3. Valentino Rossi (Yamaha)

It’s cool to see Rossi finish Podium again, even though it isn’t first. Two red ducatis in the top two is also quite a sight. Capirossi overtook Rossi when it’s almost the end of the race, probably around 8 or 9 laps to go.

Rossi’s new look, again. Source: motogp.com

Before the race, in the ‘On the Grid’ preview show, the Yamaha spokesperson actually said something in the lines of, “We’re happy to have Rossi join us after he’s gained so many championships with Honda. We’re not looking for a leading team member, not looking for a winner. We’re looking for a strong rider to help us improve the bike.”

What the hell man. What the bloody hell. You race to bloody win. MotoGP some more. Rossi should move to another maker. Capirossi’s going under Suzuki next year. Rossi should leave Yamaha for good.

Stoner’s girlfriend, now wife, is pretty hot. Source: dipag.com (obviously)
