You know what? Screw everything else… Nightwish (with Tarja) is the best, and nothing beats it.
This is the best rendition of the song, Phantom of the Opera.
I was introduced to this song in sec 2 by my music teacher. It was the original classical version. But Nightwish’s take on it… really captures it. The best i tells ya. The best.
This song’s called Victorium Speramus. Played to some awesome Assasin’s Creed cutscenes and gameplay. It’s an awesome game, and if you’re getting PS3 or 360, get this. The band’s called Krypteria. Worth checking out, especially if you are those among few disappointed with recent Nightwish developments.
That’s the lead vocals. A certain friend who’s got a Korean girlfriend should check her and her band out yeah?
Earlier on this week, I had intended to write an abhorring review on the new Nightwish, or rather, post-Tarja Nightwish. I had seen a video on Youtube of their concert somewhere, and Anette, their new singer, was singing … no… murdering the Nightwish songs which were sung by Tarja Tuorinen. I literally winced in my seats as she sung songs like “Wishmaster” and “She is my Sin”.
But as I continued browsing, I realised that their album is out, and as always, there will be people uploading songs on youtube. I took a listen to some, and hmmm.. it’s not THAT bad. It’s different from their old concept of Goth/Power Metal. It’s definitely mainstream. Anette’s voice isn’t too bad on the songs which were intended for her.
And I came across this vid: Bye Bye Beautiful. Sound’s pretty low, so turn it up. The video’s pretty suggestive. Nightwish’s turned into a bunch of girls. Heh.
I wrote an entry on their first video with the new singer before. The song’s Amaranth. Click here. It’s not bad, really. It’s not like the old Nightwish, definitely. But it’s something I could give a chance to. I’m no longer a hard core fan of Nightwish, but I guess I could still listen to them.Sigh, I miss their old concept.
The first person I shared this with was the man who introduced me to Nightwish back in Poly, the Foo boy. And this is what he has to say:
Marcus Foo says: she looks better Marcus Foo says: but her style like lindsay lohan sia.. Fer ‘buckethead’ says: ok tts imagewise Fer ‘buckethead’ says: what about music? Marcus Foo says: oh yes concept Marcus Foo says: like medieval meets pop Marcus Foo says: voice like pop music Marcus Foo says: music a little less metal Fer ‘buckethead’ says: yeah Marcus Foo says: i like the cleavage though
How true.
The video was released a few hours before this post. And people’s put it up on youtube already.
When I first heard the intro, it was promising. I hope Nightwish preserves its unique brand of goth/power/melodic metal. But then, when the new singer, Anette Olzon, started singing, it became more like pop. Especially when she started bobbing her head like britney spears or something.
Then the worst part was… Emppu got no solo! He’s like a freakin’ rhythm guitarist! Song wise, its a totally new sound, although a lot less metal than previous albums. I guess they’re trying to fit in to the new vocals.
So far I’ve heard two songs from their new album. And so far, I’m still skeptical that it’ll live up to its own grandeur.
The only good thing about the whole vocalist change was the image and outlook change that comes with it. I’m certain there are gonna be lots of new fans now, since they’re becoming more mainstream. Anette also gives a fresh look to the band. Although she’s slightly older than Tarja, she can surely give a good presentation, I hope. I haven’t seen them live yet.
