First Steps

In light of recent interview-going frenzy, I happened to stumble on this little short film from Rejected Jokes. It’s pretty funny. Love the guy’s smucked confidence. His sheer blatantly ridiculous resume, his attitude and his super high self esteem… perfect package.

Meanwhile, I’m finally picking up flash again. It’s something I had wanted to do since umm, I first started designing for the web. But the somewhat poor experience in Poly, when I was learning flash, sort of put me off for most of the time. I even went as far as looking at other code-heavy alternatives like Javascripts and its spawns (mootools and whatnot). While these are cool, I don’t really have a full need for them and what I do want to do, I can do with Flash, mostly.

So I’ve been doing a quick refresh of the software. Luckily it all falls into place rather easily, since I’ve done some of the things before. But now I’m looking at the more cool stuff like scrolling galleries and character animation.

I’ve been in denial by saying that Flash sucks and makes websites run slower, load slower, and search engine bots can’t crawl through it. Well, all that is partly true. But it also offers interactivity at an almost unlimited level. Just take a look at this Jakarta based website, Magnivate.

And about the bots not being able to crawl. Those apply more for the full flash websites. Even so, I’ve seen that there are tutorials on how to incorporate metatags into the final published movie/site.

That leaves my accusation that flash makes websites load slower and run slower. Well, again, partly true, but that is entirely up to the designer to optimise the website to load quick, run smooth. Even extremely heavy CSS websites that load up a plethora of images which aren’t even optimised can be painfully slow. And when people go overboard with Ajax or Mootools or any Javascripts, the website could become a nightmare.

It’s all good on the net, just how you build it. Meanwhile, I’m taking a break and checking out bestwebgallery.com

It is so Beautiful

I can’t resist. I have to make a post, even though I don’t have an idea whatsoever what to write on. Why do I have to make a post?

I just upgraded to Wordpress 2.7! It’s super sweet I tells ya. It’s sleek and beautiful, and I haven’t even explored its functionality yet.

wordpress

This was what it looked like when I’m making posts. I love it! It’s great.

And now, my plans for the future:

Hopefully, I’ll get more projects to get my gears grinding again. Lots of cobweb and dust have settled on the creativity section of my brain. And the rust had accumulated on the coding skills side of the brain also.

Also, a revamp of the entire site is up for consideration… it’s about time too. Time to ‘break free’ of the narrowness. I’ve started looking for opportunities by sending this URL off to many potential employers/clients. I think I’d be happier if they see something closer to the super cool standards of great websites like:

There are so many more, but I don’t really wanna list them here. Don’t think it’d be a good idea.

Right, I just wanna make a post after this new upgrade. I love it! Happy 2009 then!

White Edition

Ok, it’s finally done. Welcome to Suadref Studios, White Edition. I’ve been planning a revamp since God knows when. Now, I STILL HAVEN’T DONE IT! But! I’ve changed the colour scheme for this website. I’m pretty sick of black now. Dark designs… broody look… supposed elegance… Sick of all that.

So now here’s something simple, white, bright and hopefully cheerful enough. It’s not too flashy, so maybe cheerful isn’t the word. But anyways, most of the stuff remains the same, just a different container to hold it in.

I’m currently also embarking on a band website, which will hopefully play a vital role in their marketing, and at the same time, put this little venture up on a bigger dish for all to see. Details will be revealed as the site, and the band, gets more content.

Lastly, below are some Header Images I’ve used over the years. I don’t wanna delete them, brings back some memories, ya know. Thought I’ll just put em here…

Web Design and Unix, not related.

School’s out, but I’ve been quite occupied with web design projects. I really wanted to do a revamp of suadref studios, especially since the code I used in this site is written when I’m still learning CSS & XHTML. When I look at the code, I couldn’t remember which part is for what.

I hate coding, but markup codings I can handle, a bit. So, I tweaked around the design a bit, and check out the alternative suadref studios home page. White actually looks good eh?

However, this won’t be the revamped look. I still haven’t figured out how to re-make this site to be more umm.. modern.

White Concept, in consideration.

Current Dark Concept

Also, I’ve finally installed Ubuntu. And with a GREAT deal of help from Ram, I’ve managed to pimp it up to such a high level, I blow myself away every time i boot up the system!

My desktop, halfway thru pimping. It looks a hell lot sweeter now.

This post is written to remind me to elaborate on these two topics. My update frequency has been really going down. Well, stay tuned for the pimped up Unix details and my web endeavours!

Chrome and de-Chrome

With all the big ruckus about the launch of almighty Google’s new browser, I think I’ll have a say in it too after trying it out for a few days.

I’ve decided that it’s got a few good stuff, but overall, I’m still using Firefox. However, I’m leaving Chrome on my desktop in case of quick net searches.

Why is Chrome nice?

  1. Awesome load up speed. It’s almost like, to quote a friend, loading up a folder in your computer!
  2. Precious real estate. I’m talking about the tabs being put way on top, practically on the title bar. There is NO title bar. Just tabs and a little google word beside the – [] X on top.
  3. Incognito Mode. This shouldn’t be here. It should be found below, in the not-nice section.
  4. The multiple mini-site Home page. I know, most browsers have this, but Chrome’s super load up speed and displaying this with no added time makes it a charm.
  5. Easy Importing. I spent minimal effort in making Chrome feel at home with all my bookmarks, cookies and saved passwords imported over from Firefox. But I’m sure many other browsers have this feature too.
  6. Holy Crap. I just added this: Chrome has: right click>>Inspect element. SWEET!!!! It literally breaks down the design of the site~!!!

Then why am I not a total Chrome convert? Mainly coz of lack of the following:

  1. No Add Ons. Even though I don’t use a lot of Add Ons, I really treasure and maximise the usage of those addons I have. Stuff like WebDeveloper toolbar, Download Helper, DownthemAll, and IE Tab (heh) are priceless to me. Can’t live without ‘em.
  2. No: Right Click>> View background Image. I have this habit. I see a pretty website, I’ll think of how they got this up on their webdesign. So I’ll go around the screen looking at how the lay out their CSS. It’s a lot harder to do when you can’t simply view background image. FORGET THAT! I amended this, see number 6 above.
  3. Chrome’s streaming isn’t perfect. I was watching some Veronica Mars, and it got interrupted quite often. Firefox never had that problem. Unless my dumbshit Internet Provider cocks up again. Yes Starhub, I speaketh of you.
  4. No customizability on the toolbars. I want this here, I want that there, but I can’t do anything. Minimalistic is good, but gimme some room to customise, will ya?
  5. Bookmarking. It’s just.. unfamiliar, and not too detailed. In Firefox 3, you can type keyword tags and suddenly the page url comes up in the address bar. I’ve really taken a liking to that.
  6. Incognito mode: Who are they kidding when they say that it’s useful for planning secret birthday parties for friends? Pfft.
  7. No full screen. Sometimes I wanna see the whole view. Another weird habit. Don’t ask.
  8. Others: They don’t really concern me, much. But from what I’ve read around, here are some more, briefly: Non-windows support, dragging tabs back into windows  (or into bookmarks), profile roaming, who knows what else.

Hmm, people think I’m super pro Chrome coz of my MSN nick. I just forgot to change it for some time. In summary, I think Chrome’s still a new browser which has much potential to uncover, especially with Google making it, I’m curious to see where future versions will take it.

Meanwhile, the Mozilla people aren’t just shaking their legs.

On a lighter note, do yourselves a favour and watch this amazing piece of film. It’s TERMINATOR vs ROBOCOP!!! A dream film!

What’s been Up

They say a picture speaks a thousand words. So, here’s a random posting of some of the projects I’ve been up to in the past few weeks. Click on each picture to read more about it.

Others

New comics for PCM
You’ll see in the desktop screenshot above, I’ve installed GTA San Andreas. The actual intention was to capture backgrounds for the comic I’m working on. Yea, a comic. But till today, it’s not lifted off the ground. I kept scrapping the first issue over and over again.

BBQ video
Way long overdue BBQ video is finally done. Didn’t take much time to edit actually. I don’t know why I procrastinate so much. The people involved probably won’t know when the hell this BBQ took place. I’ll release the trailer soon, and whoever wants it, I’ll burn a copy. I guess holding screening sessions nowadays is next to impossible seeing how busy everyone is.

RAYA video
Yet another overdue project. RAYA 07. Hmmm, I think I’ll get it done by RAYA 08.

I’m still in the process of designing my wordpress blog. So, excuse the mess a bit eh?

Light Blue

I don’t know why, but school’s out for a week. I’m gonna finish, I mean really finish my stuff before it reopens.

Meanwhile, here’s a sneak on my latest project. The Nurul Ikhlas website. It’s for the portfolio, mostly.
My re-attempt at making comics seemed to fail repeatedly. I need fresh ideas and a new style. And doodling in class is NOT helping.

Preview of the Preview

Hey People! I’ve returned from the Realm of Terror aka Exams Period! After a few days of rest and catching up on movies and series like Prison Break, Deja Vu and so much more, I settled myself down for full immersion into CSS and webdesign as well as exploring and experimenting with Adobe AfterEfx. I’ve done something with AE, but it’s really too crappy to put up or share. Hah!

I think this would have to be the biggest revamp of my entire website. There are some things I still need, like the scanner, and dreamweaver/flash.

But I’m learning the hard way, which is hardcoding everything from Textpad.

I’m thinking if I should purchase that domain/host… 80 bucks per year for a sweet name like:
“http:// suadrefstudios.com”.

The snapshot above is FAR from the final design. It’s just that I’m so happy after figuring out CSS layouts, I feel like putting something up. The images are all not confirmed. It WON’T look like this when it’s ready. But maybe something LIKE this.
